Is Teaching Stressful?

19 Jul

My beloved, friendly, warm, kind (what else?) English teacher came in on Friday and told us that she needed a one-week break to rest due to stress. We were shocked upon her decision, but I won’t blame her because my class is very noisy, very chaotic. Trust me, you don’t want to enter into my class!

Some teachers may think that teaching is stressful job but they still insists on doing so because of their interest. Would you say that my English teacher is weak? Or would you say that she needs some rest in order to take care of her health?

Quoting from MayoClinic.com, stress symptoms can affect your body, your thoughts and feelings, and your behavior. Stress may be affecting your health, and you may not even realize it. We must read more books or exposed yourself to the Internet towards the GOOD things, and understand the various symptoms of various diseases.

Stress can actually take over your body without you even noticing it. Stress can cause:

  • Headache
  • Chest pain
  • Pounding heart
  • High blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath
  • Muscle aches
  • Back pain
  • Skim breakouts

and many more…

Not only stress can cause these problems, they can also affect your feelings and thoughts, like feeling anxious, depressed, confuse, guilty, feeling insecure, sad, angry and worry. You probably think that these are small matters but these small matters can accumulate to become a big matter!

Stress can change your behaviour towards other people too like blaming others, conflict in relationship, excessive drinking, drug abuse and many more.

There are ways for you to reduce stress but it depends on the person itself. I served the Net and stumbled upon this website. It says that you can cut down an activity or two, opting for just the ones that are most important to you, like my English teacher. She prefers to stay healthy rather than aching herself by teaching monsters in school. Try to be more realistic in life, don’t try to be a perfectionist. Also, solve the little problems you have in life, don’t wait until it becomes a big thing. Feeling capable of solving little problems builds the inner confidence to move on to life’s bigger ones.

Understand stress, understand yourself.Take good care of your health before it is too late! God bless.

Sorry, I need to give you a rather clear picture on my leave. Well, I need to be away to somewhere for something and it is also the BEST time to unwind and stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city life and the boisterous students…
